Bicycle FacilitiesComplete Streets

Providing adequate facilities for bicyclists creates a safe environment for all road users by separating different modes of travel.  Facilities such as bike lanes, sharrows, wide paved shoulders and off road paths designate a portion of a corridor specifically for bicyclists and provide visual cues to drivers to be aware of bicyclists.  While bicyclists have the same rights to use the road as motorists, not all feel comfortable taking a travel lane.  Separate facilities provide more options for cyclists of different abilities.
