Draft 2023-2026 Transportation improvement program
Using the Map
The map above shows all projects that have been submitted for consideration of federal funds in the WATS 2024-2026 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) as well as all projects that have been approved for 2023. Click on a point or line to view application details in the pop-up, including project description, total project cost, and requested amount of federal funds by funding source. To view the map legend, or to toggle layers on and off, click the button in the top left-hand corner of the map.
Many projects being considered are areawide, such as transit capital projects that benefit an entire service area or preventative maintenance programs that include multiple locations. These projects are displayed as a point at their sponsor agency location. If you see an arrow in the top right-hand corner of the pop-up, be sure to scroll through to check out every project listed for that location.
You can also view an entire listing of project requests in spreadsheet format HERE.

Why are Fiscal Year 2023 projects Not Included in the Map?
The TIP has one year that overlaps to ensure that projects that have been approved for federal funding can move forward. For this TIP development, the overlap year is FY 2023. To see a full list of the approved projects in FY 2023 please click here
Description of Federal Funding Sources
For the 2023-2026 TIP development, the funding sources that are being decided upon are:
Surface Transportation Program Block Grant (STPBG) urban and rural funds, Transportation Economic Development Category D Funds (TEDF - D), and Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) program funds
WATS does not administer the following funding sources: TAP, Bridge, or Safety. Those are competitive grant programs that are administered by MDOT or by SEMCOG. TheRide receives direct allocations of funds from FTA
You can view a detailed description of federal funding sources HERE.
