The 2050 Plan calls for extensive collaboration between WATS and local communities to achieve future goals. The Plan outlines how agencies can implement its vision while meeting federal requirements for funding, including fiscal constraint, traffic modeling, and federal planning factors. Building on the 2045 Plan, the 2050 Plan continues to emphasizes equity, and now adds additional focus on safety, as key factors in prioritizing transportation projects. The Plan was approved by the WATS Policy Committee on Wednesday, June 12th, 2024.

WATS incorporates the discussion of performance measures throughout the document. SEMCOG, as the MPO for the region, monitors performance measures and updates that information regularly. WATS also created their own local performance measures. In collaboration with stakeholders, SEMCOG also develops the Regional Transportation Plan, Vision 2050, which aligns with the transportation goals of the region.

The WATS 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) includes goals for the future of the transportation network in Washtenaw County, strategies for improvements to the transportation system using federal funds, a discussion of future conditions (system condition and demographic forecast), and regional priorities.
